Still trying to get over all the unbelievable action from last night's games, easily the best night of local hoops I've seen in a long, long time. In today's action I was only able to catch the last 4 games so that's all you're going to get here. Here goes!

Douglass 54 Lansdowne 44

Lansdowne led pretty much the whole game until they hit a 7 minute scoreless streak to start the 4th quarter and Douglass scored more points in the 4th quarter(23) than they did in the entire 1st half(14), in their 10 point victory.

Lansdowne led 12-8 after 1 as Brent Arrington scored 8 of his 18 points in the quarter. They upped the the lead to 22-14 at the half as Douglass was an abysmal 7-32 from the field and 0 for 8 from 3 point land in the half. Douglass took it's first lead of the game on a basket by Lamont Huggins at 29-28 with 3:20 left in the 3rd, but Lansdowne responded with a 9-0 run to up the lead to 37-29, and ended the 3rd leading 37-31.

That was when the well went dry as Douglass scored the first 23 points in the 4th quarter with scoring from everywhere. Dawawn Thompson scored 6, and Dwayne Brewer and Trevon Curbean each had 5 in the run. With 1 minute left in the game Douglass led 54-37 and it was game over.

Arrington finished with 18 for Lansdowne and Nick LaGuerre scored 10. Douglass had 3 players in double digits as Huggins finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, Thompson also had 12 and Brewer had 10.

Dunbar 56 Parkville 49

The Poets of Dunbar outscored Parkville 20-15 in the 4th quarter behind Derrell Edwards(7pts) and Devonte Wallace(6pts) as the City defeated the County once again.

Parkville jumped out to 15-7 lead after 1 quarter before the Poets hit three consecutive 3-pointers to take a 16-15 lead. The lead changed hands 7 times in the second quarter before Parkville got a disputed 2 point bucket at the buzzer by Denzel Walker to take a 26-25 lead into the locker room.

The 2nd half became a turnover fest for the Knights as Parkville turned the ball over 5 times in the first 3 minutes of the second half and 16 times total in the half. Those mistakes led Dunbar to a 36-34 lead after the 3 quarter, which is when the Dunbar defense took over

A steal and a layup by Edwards completed an 11-1 run by Dunbar to give them a 42-35 lead with 5:45 left in the game. Lakeem Duncan converted on a 3 point play with 2:42 left to get the Knights within 4 points at 49-45, but Edwards hit a 3 and Corey Spence scored on a layup after causing a turnover to give the Poets a 54-45 lead with less than 2 minutes to go, as the Poets would cruise to the 7 point victory.

Ballou 59 City 52

For the second night in a row City College got behind early, but this time their valiant comeback came up just short as they suffered their first defeat of the season to the Ballou Knights 59-52.

Ballou had a slim 4 point lead after the 1st quarter at 16-12, but the 2nd quarter was when they took command. After City got within 16-14 on a Nick Faust(15pts) basket, the Knights outscored them 15-1 behind 8 points from Donte Thomas(14) to up their lead to 31-15. Ballou led at the half 37-21 as City was simply a 2 man team, with Faust and Jordan Latham(23) scoring 17 of their 21 points.

City got within 8 towards the end of the 3rd before Thomas hit a bucket at the buzzer to push the lead back to 10 at 46-36. A couple of threes by Faust got City within 5 at 49-44 and a later dunk from Latham closed the gap to 53-50 with under 2 minutes to go. City then got a steal on the next Ballou possession but then turned it right back over on it's own possession. That was as close as they would get as Christian Leach scored for the Knights and then they converted 2 consecutive City turnovers into Eugene Watkins layups to thwart the comeback.

City fell to 10-1 and Ballou came out of the weekend with a split against Baltimores finest and improved to 13-3.

Lake Clifton 75 Longwood 71

In Friday nights action it was Donte Thomas whom Josh Selby battled against, yet came out victorious against in the end for Lake Clifton. Tonight it was Tajric Boggs of Longwood who put up the latest challenge to Selby and his Lakers, and once again the Lakers pulled out a close one 75-71.

In the 1st quarter Darien Davis(19 pts) scored 9 of the Lions first 11 points and Longwood held a slim 13-12 lead after one. Selby, after scoring just 2 points in the 1st quarter, started to heat up in the 2nd as he scored 8 of his game high 33 points and Lake grabbed a 30-24 lead at the half. The lead could have been more but the Lakers were just 4-15 from the free throw line and 1-9 from three point land in the half.

The 3rd quarter was when the fun began. Selby and Boggs each scored 11 points in the quarter as Josh drove hard to the basket and Tajric couldn't miss from 3 point land. Lake held a slim 3 point lead, 49-46 going into the 4th.

Lake led 50-48 when Boggs hit another three to give Longwood it's first lead since the 1st quarter, 51-50. Selby gave Lake a 54-53 lead before Boggs hit back to back threes to give Longwood a 59-53 lead. Selby then converted a three the old fashioned way to tie things up at 59 with a little over 4 minutes to play. After Longwood took another lead at 61-59, Selby converted on another 3 point play to give Lake the lead again at 62-61 with 3:30 to go. Davis gave the Lions their final lead of the night, 63-62, with a steal and a layup. The Lakers then went on a 10-2 run behind 4 pts. from Selby, 4 from Durand Johnson(16) and a basket by Jeffrey Fields(18), to lead 72-65 with just 38 seconds remaining. Boggs hit 3 free throws to get the Lions within 4 but the Lakers hit on 3 of their final 4 foul shots to seal the victory.

The Lakers went 2-0 on the weekend and moved to 7-3, with a huge matchup against City foe the Patterson Clippers on Tuesday. Longwood has nothing to be ashamed off as they were beaten by two of Baltimore City's finest, as they fell to 9-2.

It was a pleasure to watch Mr. Selby over these past two days, along with all the other incredible talent on display here, and I look forward to the Basketball Academy for many years to come.
